In his latest image series Equilibrium, Jelle Rietveld is looking for the ‘now’ of life, for the essence of our comings and goings, for positive and negative polarities, for the reasons why our existence is a ‘balancing act’. How peace and unrest relate to each other, obstacles and opportunities, calm and storm, nature and city.
In Equilibrium he puzzles with structures, shapes and colors that we know from both ‘camps’ or associate with the opposites. How do they fit together? Or next to each other? How much do they contrast, and can they harmonize? Just a few questions that may occur to the viewer. With Equilibrium, Rietveld calls on everyone to look at their own ‘balancing act’.
